Established in May of 2000, North Arrow Technologies is the product of assembling a core group of innovative and dedicated individuals with over 20 years of geographic information systems (GIS) experience, including one certified GIS Professional (GISP). President & CEO
Jeff’s interests in systems technologies were fostered by his education in Engineering Graphics and Design Technology. After graduating he was employed by Plastipak Packaging, Inc. as a corporate project engineer and was responsible for production line start-ups and troubleshooting of downstream support equipment, both electrical and mechanical. After a year, Jeff was promoted to corporate project manager which entailed managing multiple projects throughout the eastern United States. Project management included creation of new production line layouts, budget planning, purchasing, and installation of fully automated manufacturing facilities. These projects ranged from $100,000 to $39 million. Jeff came to North Arrow in 2002 as a Senior Associate. During the years since his transition from engineering to GIS Jeff familiarized himself with the field of GIS, particularly as it relates to infrastructure and asset management, and now leads Cityworks sales, customization, and deployment. Harnessing his extensive project management background, Jeff runs the day-to-day operations of the company as President and CEO.
In his spare time Jeff enjoys large home improvement projects, hunting and fishing, playing golf, and spending time with family and friends.
Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University.
James Rutherford, GISPGIS Coordinator
James has worked with geospatial technologies since 2000 in both the public and private sectors. At the University of Michigan, he was the primary research assistant on a project documenting land-cover change in the Midwest. This project eventually led to the publication of a journal article in Remote Sensing of Environment. After graduation, James accepted a job at North Arrow Technologies, first as a GIS technician and currently as the GIS Coordinator where he is responsible for managing and executing GIS-based projects at NAT. He also serves as a primary technical consultant for NAT’s local government clients by providing on-site GIS support and training. Additionally, James brings a strong background in computer science - programming custom tools, scripts, and applications for GIS software since 2001. He enjoys developing solutions that simplify GIS tasks and increase productivity.
On the rare occasion James isn’t working with GIS, he enjoys golf and other outdoor activities, designing websites, and playing the piano.
James holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan. In 2008, James was certified as a GIS Professional (GISP).
