One of the most popular applications of GIS in local governments is 300 foot notifications. For any proposed change
to a parcel's zoning, all citizens living within a certain distance of that parcel must be notified of the impending
change. Before GIS, this task was performed with pencil, paper and a ruler - hardly an efficient method.
With the addition of GIS, the notifications process became much faster although it still required a number of
repetitive tasks and a solid understanding of GIS and related software packages.
In an effort to improve productivity, we have developed a custom Notifications Tool that runs
within Esri's ArcGIS for Desktop. Any GIS user can use the tool and within seconds have the parcels identified, mailing labels
created that are ready to print.
